Description: Manages Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) port configuration and power monitoring on Dell DNOS switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DNOS-POWER-ETHERNET-MIB?
This is a Dell-specific MIB that augments the standard IETF POWER-ETHERNET-MIB to provide additional Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) hardware reporting on Dell DNOS switches, covering details the base MIB does not expose. It focuses on power sourcing equipment (PSE) status and configuration for ports delivering power to connected devices such as IP phones, cameras, or wireless access points. This is squarely a hardware health monitoring MIB: it supports tracking per-port power delivery, power budget consumption, and PSE hardware status, which are essential for detecting a failing PoE port, an oversubscribed power budget, or a device that unexpectedly stops drawing power. It has an explicit, acknowledged dependency on the IETF POWER-ETHERNET-MIB (RFC 3621), which it extends rather than replaces. It is deployed on Dell PowerSwitch/DNOS switches supplying PoE to edge devices in office or campus networks. Engineers can download the DNOS-POWER-ETHERNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DNOS-POWER-ETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell PowerSwitch DNOS switch
Monitoring Examples
No specific sample objects were provided for this augmenting MIB; based on its stated purpose, an administrator would combine standard pethPsePortTable objects from POWER-ETHERNET-MIB with this MIB's Dell-specific extensions to monitor actual per-port power draw against the platform's total power budget and detect PSE hardware faults not visible in the base MIB.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port PoE power delivered
- PSE power budget utilization
- PoE port hardware status
- additional Dell-specific PoE diagnostics
