Category: Vendor: Dell/DNOS

Description: Manages the device filesystem including file storage, capacity, and image management on Dell DNOS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DNOS-DEVICE-FILESYSTEM-MIB?

DNOS-DEVICE-FILESYSTEM-MIB is a Broadcom-authored private MIB used on Dell Networking OS (DNOS) switches to manage the device's onboard filesystem, covering file storage locations, capacity, and firmware/software image management. It exposes data such as available and used storage space, file listings, and image file metadata for the switch's flash or persistent storage. This makes it directly useful for monitoring hardware/software status: administrators can track filesystem capacity to detect storage nearing full (which can block firmware upgrades or logging), and verify which software images are present and active, which relates to the device's software version status. It is a Dell/Broadcom enterprise-specific private MIB, so it depends on the vendor's DNOS agent infrastructure rather than a standard IETF filesystem MIB. It is deployed on Dell DNOS-based switches (e.g., Dell EMC Networking N-Series/S-Series) for storage and image lifecycle monitoring, and administrators can download the DNOS-DEVICE-FILESYSTEM-MIB file directly to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DNOS-DEVICE-FILESYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell EMC DNOS-based network switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll a filesystem capacity table to see total versus free space on the switch's flash storage before attempting a firmware upload, avoiding a failed install due to insufficient space. Listing image file entries confirms which DNOS software images are stored and which is marked active/boot, letting an operator verify a rollback image is still present. A sudden drop in free space reported by the filesystem objects would flag runaway log files or a stuck core dump consuming storage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • filesystem free/used capacity
  • stored firmware image list
  • active/boot image selection
  • file storage metadata
  • flash storage health
