Category: Vendor: D-Link

Description: Manages Device Language Message Specification (DLMS) protocol interfaces for smart energy meter communication.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLMS-MIB?

DLMS-MIB defines SNMP management objects for the Device Language Message Specification (DLMS/COSEM) protocol, a standard widely used in smart electricity, gas, and water metering infrastructure. It exposes configuration and status data for DLMS protocol interfaces that bridge SNMP-based network management with meter-side communication sessions. The MIB is primarily used to monitor the operational health and software status of the DLMS gateway or concentrator process, including interface uptime, session/connection state, and communication error counts that indicate a meter link has stalled or a firmware component has failed. Because it models a protocol interface rather than physical hardware, it often depends on generic interface-indexing conventions similar to IF-MIB. It is typically deployed on smart-metering head-end systems, data concentrators, or gateway devices that translate SNMP polling into DLMS/COSEM meter reads for utility monitoring platforms. Engineers can download the DLMS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLMS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • smart meter data concentrator/gateway
  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB for DLMS/COSEM metering devices

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll DLMS interface status objects to confirm that the metering communication channel is up and actively exchanging COSEM object data with downstream meters. Rising error or timeout counters on a DLMS session object would indicate a failing RS-485/PLC link or a meter that has stopped responding, prompting a field truck roll. Because no sample objects were available for this MIB, exact table names cannot be cited, but such MIBs typically expose an interface table indexed similarly to ifTable with per-session status and counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DLMS interface status
  • meter communication session state
  • protocol error/timeout counts
  • gateway uptime
  • software/firmware version
