Description: MIB for configuring and monitoring MAC address-based authentication, including session and VLAN assignment, on D-Link industrial switches
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DLINKSW-MAC-AUTH-MIB?
This is a D-Link proprietary MIB for D-Link industrial switches configuring and monitoring MAC address-based authentication (MAB), including per-session state and dynamic VLAN assignment upon successful authentication. It exposes configuration for enabling MAC authentication per port and status for authenticated sessions, including the assigned VLAN. For monitoring, an admin checks which ports/MAC addresses are currently authenticated and which VLAN they were assigned, catching a device that fails MAC authentication (and is therefore unable to pass traffic) or one placed in an unexpected quarantine/guest VLAN due to an authentication failure. It parallels 802.1X-adjacent MAC Authentication Bypass concepts common across switch vendors without a single direct IETF MIB dependency. It is deployed on D-Link industrial switches where devices that cannot support full 802.1X supplicant software (e.g., printers, IoT/industrial sensors) still need port-based access control. Engineers can download the DLINKSW-MAC-AUTH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINKSW-MAC-AUTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link industrial switch
Monitoring Examples
No sample object names were provided for this module, so specific OIDs cannot be cited here. Based on its description, a realistic scenario is checking per-port MAC authentication enable state and the current authenticated session table (MAC address, port, assigned VLAN), to catch a device that failed authentication and was denied access or placed into an unexpected VLAN.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port MAC authentication enable state
- authenticated session MAC-to-port mapping
- dynamically assigned VLAN per session
