Description: Manages Telnet server configuration and active session control for remote CLI access on D-Link 3100 series switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DLINK-3100-TELNET-MIB?
DLINK-3100-TELNET-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for D-Link 3100-series switches (private MIB naming under the 'rl' prefix, reflecting D-Link's RLE/Radlan lineage), covering Telnet server configuration and active-session management for remote CLI access, a device-management technology area. It exposes the Telnet daemon's password and idle-timeout settings, a table of active Telnet user sessions with each session's client address (with address-type support), login time, and session status, plus configurable login banner text. Its monitoring value centers on remote-access/software-service status: confirming which clients are currently connected via Telnet, how long a session has been active, and whether a session can be administratively terminated, which helps operators detect unauthorized or stale management sessions on the switch. It builds on the general vendor 'rl' private MIB naming conventions shared across the D-Link/Radlan switch line rather than a standard IETF MIB. It is deployed on D-Link 3100 series managed switches for remote CLI administration, where DLINK-3100-TELNET-MIB SNMP monitoring helps identify unauthorized or stale Telnet sessions.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-TELNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link 3100 series managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll rlTelnetUsersTable/rlTelnetUsersEntry to see each rlTelnetSessionId along with its rlTelnetSessionClientAddress and rlTelnetSessionLoginTime, identifying, for example, a session that has been open for an unusually long time from an unexpected address. Setting rlTelnetSessionStatus to a destroy value would allow the operator to forcibly terminate that session, while rlTelnetTimeout and rlTelnetLoginBanner confirm the configured idle-timeout and banner text shown to new connections. Checking rlTelnetPassword configuration (if not read as a value) alongside rlTelnetMibVersion confirms the Telnet access policy currently enforced on the switch.
What Can Be Monitored
- active Telnet session list
- session client address
- session login time
- session status (active/terminate)
- Telnet idle timeout
- login banner configuration
