Category: Technology: Stacking, Vendor: D-Link

Description: Manages switch stacking configuration, unit roles, topology, and stacking link status on D-Link 3100 series switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINK-3100-STACK-MIB?

DLINK-3100-STACK-MIB is a proprietary D-Link MIB for the 3100 series switches that manages physical switch stacking, the grouping of multiple physical units into one logically managed switch, including active unit ID, per-unit mode, and behavior after a reset/reboot. It exposes stack topology and role data: which unit is currently active/master, what unit ID and mode a member will take after reset, and the current operating mode of each stacked unit. This is directly a hardware-status MIB: rlStackCurrentUnitId and the active-unit-ID table let an administrator detect an unplanned stack master failover, a hardware/software fault event, and the after-reset objects reveal whether stack configuration will hold across a reboot. It is a self-contained private MIB with no stated dependency on external stacking standards. It is typically deployed wherever multiple D-Link DES-3100 units are physically stacked to act as a single logical switch in a wiring closet or data-center row. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the DLINK-3100-STACK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-STACK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DES-3100 series stacked switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rlStackActiveUnitIdTable/rlStackActiveUnitIdEntry to confirm which unit currently holds the rlStackCurrentUnitId (active/master) role, and compare it to rlStackActiveUnitIdAfterReset to see if the master role is expected to change on next reboot. A mismatch between the currently active unit and the configured after-reset unit, or an unexpected rlStackUnitMode change, signals a stack member has failed or dropped out of the stack, triggering an unplanned master failover.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current active/master stack unit
  • unit ID assignment after reset
  • per-unit stack mode
  • stack topology/role changes
