Category: Protocol: RMON, Technology: Traffic Monitoring, Vendor: D-Link

Description: Implements Switch Monitoring (SMON) extensions for per-VLAN and per-port statistics on D-Link 3100 series switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINK-3100-SMON-MIB?

DLINK-3100-SMON-MIB implements Switch Monitoring (SMON) extensions on D-Link 3100 series switches, built on RADLAN switch software given the rl-prefixed objects, providing per-VLAN and per-port traffic mirroring/copy configuration used for monitoring purposes. It exposes objects for configuring port-copy (mirroring) sessions, including VLAN tagging behavior and copy mode (monitor-only vs. network), along with capability and version indicators. It is used to monitor the software/configuration status of the switch's traffic-mirroring feature, letting an admin check mirroring support and MIB version to confirm the capability is present and correctly versioned, and inspect the VLAN tagging table to verify mirrored traffic retains or strips VLAN tags as expected for a connected packet analyzer. It builds on the RFC 2613 SMON MIB standard, extending it with D-Link/RADLAN-specific VLAN-tagging and copy-mode objects. It is typically deployed on D-Link 3100 series managed switches in enterprise LANs where port mirroring is used for traffic analysis, intrusion detection, or troubleshooting. Engineers can download the DLINK-3100-SMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-SMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link 3100 series managed switches (RADLAN-based)

Monitoring Examples

An admin configures rlPortCopyVlanTaggingTable/rlPortCopyVlanTaggingEntry to control the rlPortCopyVlanTagging setting for mirrored frames, then verifies rlPortCopyMode is set to the intended monitor-only or network copy destination mode. If a network analyzer connected to the mirror destination port isn't receiving expected traffic, checking rlPortCopySupport confirms the switch's mirroring capability is enabled, and rlPortCopyMibVersion confirms the supported feature version, ruling out a firmware mismatch as the cause.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port mirroring/copy session configuration
  • VLAN tagging behavior on mirrored traffic
  • copy mode (monitor-only vs network)
  • mirroring feature support/version
