What Is DLINK-3100-Physicaldescription-MIB?

DLINK-3100-Physicaldescription-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from D-Link, part of the DLINK-3100 (rnd) MIB family, that models the physical chassis, module, port, and stacking inventory of D-Link 3100-series switches. Its rlPhdModuleTable and rlPhdPortsTable describe installed modules and ports by stack unit, row/column chassis position, and media/connector type, while rlPhdStackTable and rlPhdStackOrderTable track stack membership, product ID, MAC address, and desired-versus-current unit ordering across a stacked chassis. A rlPhdUnitGenParamTable reports per-unit software/firmware/hardware versions, serial number, asset tag, and manufacturer/model identity, and a companion rlPhdUnitEnvParamTable exposes environmental health objects such as main/redundant power-supply status and multiple fan statuses (rlPhdUnitEnvParamFan1Status through Fan5Status), plus a rlPhdModuleHotSwapTable for module admin/operational hot-swap state. This combination of inventory and environmental-health data makes it useful for confirming chassis/stack topology is as expected and for catching power-supply or fan failures before they cause a unit outage. Administrators can download the DLINK-3100-Physicaldescription-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for chassis and stack health monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-Physicaldescription-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link 3100 series switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls rlPhdUnitEnvParamFan1Status through Fan5Status and rlPhdUnitEnvParamMainPSStatus/RedundantPSStatus across all stack units, and cross-checks rlPhdStackTable for the expected unit count; a fan status reporting failure alongside a stack unit count lower than rlPhdNumberOfUnits would indicate a failed fan on a unit that has also dropped out of the stack.

What Can Be Monitored

  • module/port physical inventory tables
  • stack membership and unit ordering
  • per-unit firmware/hardware version and serial number
  • power supply status (main/redundant)
  • fan status per unit
  • module hot-swap admin/operational state
