Description: Monitors hardware environmental conditions such as temperature, fan speed, and power supply status on D-Link 3100 series switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINK-3100-HWENVIROMENT?

This is a D-Link proprietary MIB module for the 3100 series switches dedicated to hardware environmental monitoring, covering fan units and power supplies. It exposes tables of fan status entries and power supply status entries, each with descriptive text and an operational state, along with a general physical description object for the chassis. This is squarely a hardware-health MIB: it lets administrators directly monitor fan operational state (spinning normally, failed, or absent) and power supply state and source (e.g., AC vs. redundant DC), which are early-warning indicators for thermal problems or impending power failures. It is a vendor-specific counterpart to the standard CISCO-ENVMON-style or ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB approach, with no apparent formal dependency on those, being self-contained under the D-Link 3100 enterprise tree. It is deployed on any DLINK-3100 series chassis where physical environmental health needs to be tracked, typically in wiring closets or data center racks lacking direct physical access. Engineers can download the DLINK-3100-HWENVIROMENT file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-HWENVIROMENT. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DGS/DES-3100 series switches

Monitoring Examples

Polling rlEnvMonFanStatusTable and checking rlEnvMonFanState for each rlEnvMonFanStatusIndex lets an administrator detect a failed or stopped fan before it causes thermal shutdown, with rlEnvMonFanStatusDescr identifying which physical fan module is affected. Similarly, rlEnvMonSupplyStatusTable entries expose rlEnvMonSupplyState and rlEnvMonSupplySource, so a dropped redundant power feed or a supply operating outside normal parameters can be caught quickly. rlEnvPhysicalDescription provides chassis-level identification to correlate alerts with a specific physical unit in a rack.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan operational status
  • fan module description
  • power supply operational status
  • power supply source (AC/DC/redundant)
