Category: Network Interfaces

Description: Manages Ethernet interface configuration, counters, and status for network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DEVETHERNET-MIB?

DEVETHERNET-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB supplying Ethernet interface configuration and status for the BSU/SU (Base Station Unit / Subscriber Unit) wireless broadband product family. It exposes the Ethernet port's configured mode alongside its actual negotiated operating state, covering link status, speed, and duplex. Its monitoring value is confirming the health of the wired backhaul or LAN-facing Ethernet port on these wireless units, since aniDevEthernetCurrentLinkStatus directly indicates whether the port is up or down and aniDevEthernetCurrentSpeed/aniDevEthernetCurrentDuplex reveal negotiation problems such as a speed or duplex mismatch. It has no explicit dependency on other standard MIBs based on the available description, functioning as a simplified vendor alternative to the standard IF-MIB for this port. It is typically deployed on BSU/SU wireless units to monitor the Ethernet handoff port connecting the radio unit to the wired network. Engineers can download the DEVETHERNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEVETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • fixed wireless Base Station Unit (BSU)
  • fixed wireless Subscriber Unit (SU)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would compare aniDevEthernetConfigMode (the configured speed/duplex setting) against aniDevEthernetCurrentSpeed and aniDevEthernetCurrentDuplex to detect an auto-negotiation mismatch that could be causing intermittent packet loss or reduced throughput. Polling aniDevEthernetCurrentLinkStatus on a schedule would reveal an unexpected link-down event on the wired side of a wireless subscriber unit, which is often the first sign of a bad cable or failed switch port rather than a radio-link problem. This gives a quick way to isolate whether a connectivity complaint is on the wired Ethernet segment or the wireless link itself.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Ethernet link status
  • negotiated speed
  • negotiated duplex mode
  • configured Ethernet mode
