What Is DES3828P-L2MGMT-MIB?

DES3828P-L2MGMT-MIB is a proprietary D-Link enterprise MIB for Layer 2 switch management on the DES-3828P PoE switch. It exposes VLAN, spanning tree, and other core L2 switching configuration alongside PoE-specific port power management for the device's Power over Ethernet ports. For monitoring, it is used to confirm the switching fabric is stable (VLAN assignment, STP convergence) and, notably, to track PoE port power delivery status and power budget consumption, which is important hardware-health information for powered endpoints like IP phones or access points. It follows IEEE 802.1Q/802.1D VLAN/STP concepts and the IEEE 802.3af/at PoE standard, implemented through D-Link private enterprise objects. It is typically deployed on DES-3828P access-layer switches where PoE-powered devices such as VoIP phones, cameras, or wireless APs are connected. Engineers can download the DES3828P-L2MGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DES3828P-L2MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DES-3828P PoE switch
  • D-Link DES-3828 series L2 switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would monitor per-port PoE power delivery objects (structured similarly to other D-Link PoE MIBs, e.g. a port PoE status/power table keyed by port index) to see whether a given port is actively supplying power, in a fault state, or has exceeded its allocated power budget. Alongside this, VLAN and spanning-tree port-state objects would be checked to ensure the port is correctly forwarding traffic. A port reporting a PoE power-denied or overload status combined with a flapping link would point to a failing PoE splitter or an underpowered PSU on the switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PoE port power delivery status
  • PoE power budget/consumption
  • VLAN port assignment
  • spanning tree port state
