An admin uses it to narrow a controller-level problem down specifically to the board and cache hardware rather than the drives it manages. For example, cpqDaCntlrBoardCondition reporting failed(4) while logical drives still show ok tells the admin the board or its cache module needs replacing even though data access hasn't yet been affected.
