Module: CPQFCA-MIB

OID (symbolic): CPQFCA-MIB::cpqFcaPhyDrvSeekErrs

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.16.2.5.1.1.20

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Access: read-only

Description: Seek Errors (low). The phyDrvHSeekErrs and the phyDrvSeekErrs together shows the total number of times that the physical disk drive detected a seek error during the reference hours (phyDrvRefHours).

The actual number of seek errors equals the phyDrvHSeekErrs times 2^32 plus the phyDrvWriteSeekErrs.

Over time, a disk drive usually produces these errors. If you notice a rapid increase in the value shown for Seek Errors, this physical drive may be failing.

The value increases every time the physical drive produces another error. Only an unusually rapid increase in these errors indicates a problem. If you suspect that a problem exists, run diagnostics.

If the value cannot be determined, 4,294,967,295 is returned.

What is cpqFcaPhyDrvSeekErrs?

This counter provides the low-order 32 bits of the total seek errors detected by the physical drive during its reference hours, combined with cpqFcaPhyDrvHSeekErrs for the full total. An admin treats a rapidly rising seek error count as an early indicator that the drive's positioning mechanism may be degrading. For example, comparing seek error growth rates across all disks in an array can single out one drive trending toward mechanical failure well before it actually fails outright.
