The phyDrvHWrites and the phyDrvWrites together shows the total number of sectors written to the physical disk drive during the reference hours (phyDrvRefHours).
The actual number of sectors written equals the phyDrvHWrites times 2^32 plus the phyDrvWrites.
This information may be useful for determining rates. For instance, if you wanted to calculate the average number of writes per hour of operation, divide this number by the reference hours.
If the value cannot be determined, 4,294,967,295 is returned.
What is cpqFcaPhyDrvHWrites?
This counter provides the high-order 32 bits of the total sectors written to the physical drive during its reference hours, to be combined with cpqFcaPhyDrvWrites by multiplying this value by 2^32. An admin uses the combined total to gauge cumulative write wear on a disk, which is particularly relevant for planning replacement of heavily written drives. For example, a nonzero HWrites value flags that the drive has passed the 4-billion-sector write mark and needs the paired low-order counter for an exact total.
