What Is CISCOSB-rldot1q-MIB?
This is a Cisco Small Business (RADLAN-derived, hence the rl prefix) private MIB that extends IEEE 802.1Q VLAN bridging management with vendor-specific objects for static unicast forwarding, VLAN trunking, and the switch's forwarding database (FDB). It exposes Layer 2 configuration and state data: static unicast address entries and their owning port/VLAN, dynamic/learned FDB entries per VLAN, and per-VLAN/per-port FDB entry counts broken down by entry type. Its monitoring value is chiefly Layer 2 forwarding-table health and capacity, watching FDB entry counts per VLAN/port to detect a MAC table nearing capacity, a common cause of flooding and performance degradation, and auditing static unicast entries to confirm manually configured forwarding rules are correctly applied. It builds directly on the IEEE 802.1Q standard, adding Cisco Small Business (RADLAN-derived) private extensions on top of it. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switch product lines used in small/medium business networks, where administrators typically rely on a CISCOSB-rldot1q-MIB MIB Browser to inspect these forwarding objects directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-rldot1q-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switch (SG/SF series)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rldot1qTpFdbCountTable/rldot1qTpFdbCountEntry, keyed by rldot1qTpFdbCountVlanTag and rldot1qTpFdbCountPort, to see rldot1qTpFdbCountCount broken down by rldot1qTpFdbCountType (learned vs. static entries) per VLAN/port. A count approaching the switch's MAC table limit on a given port would warn of impending flooding behavior as new addresses fail to be learned. Separately, rldot1qStaticUnicastTable/rldot1qStaticUnicastEntry would be checked via rldot1qStaticUnicastAddressOwner to confirm manually configured static forwarding entries are present and correctly owned, while rldot1qTpFdbTable/rldot1qTpFdbSubStatus shows the live learned-entry status.
What Can Be Monitored
- static unicast forwarding entries
- learned FDB entries per VLAN/port
- FDB entry count per VLAN/port
- FDB entry status (static/dynamic)
