This read-only counter tracks the valid PIM Join/Prune messages received from this neighbor, the messages that build and tear down the multicast distribution tree. An admin can use it to verify that a downstream neighbor is actively sending join and prune requests for the groups it wants. For example, this counter failing to increase when a receiver joins a new multicast group would point to a problem between this router and that neighbor.
