This read-only counter reports the number of far-end errored seconds -- errors detected by the remote end of this SONET path -- accumulated during the current 24-hour interval. It lets an admin distinguish problems occurring on the far side of the link from problems on the local (near) end, which is useful for pinpointing which direction of the circuit is degraded. For example, if this far-end counter climbs while the near-end ES counter stays low, the fault is likely closer to the remote equipment or the return-path fiber.
