An administrator uses this to track whether remote-end physical-layer signal quality is improving or worsening by comparing it against the current day's far-end CV count. For example, a steadily increasing trend from the previous day's far-end CV count to today's would suggest degradation at the remote site that warrants a maintenance visit.
