This counter counts the number of times the port sent an Asynchronous Status update message, which notifies the far end of a status change outside the normal polling cycle. An administrator sees a rising count as a sign that PVC or link status changes are occurring and are being actively reported to the attached device. For example, after adding or removing a permanent virtual circuit on the port, an engineer would expect this counter to increment as the change is announced asynchronously.
