This counter records the number of received frames marked with the BECN (Backward Explicit Congestion Notification) bit, which signals congestion in the opposite (upstream) direction from the flow. An administrator watching this counter can tell the local end that it should back off its own transmit rate because the remote end reported congestion. For example, if BECN-tagged frames spike on a port carrying voice traffic to a remote site, the engineer would consider reducing the transmit committed information rate on that port.
