This read-write enumeration (enable(1), disable(2)) turns Frame-based Generic Cell Rate Algorithm policing, i.e., early packet discard, on or off for the connection; it is not supported on FRSM12. An administrator enables it to have the switch discard entire frames early, rather than partial cells, once policing determines the frame will exceed its rate contract, which improves the usefulness of surviving traffic during congestion. For example, enabling frConnFGCRAEnable on a VBR data connection would cause an over-rate frame to be dropped in its entirety at the outset rather than being partially transmitted and later reassembled unsuccessfully.
