This read-write setting chooses which congestion-management discard strategy this channel uses: CLP hysteresis, discarding based on high and low CLP thresholds, or frame discard, dropping an entire AAL5 frame's worth of cells together rather than partial frames. Frame discard is particularly important for data traffic since a partially delivered frame is often useless anyway, so discarding whole frames early can be more efficient. A channel carrying frame-based data traffic would typically use frameDiscard(2) rather than clpHysteresis(1) to avoid wasting bandwidth on incomplete frames.
