Description: Monitors active probe results and path quality measurements in the Cisco SD-WAN WAN overlay network.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SDWAN-PROBE-MIB?

CISCO-SDWAN-PROBE-MIB is a Cisco vendor MIB, part of the SD-WAN/vManage "CloudExpress" feature set, exposing active-probe path-quality measurements across the SD-WAN overlay for cloud/SaaS application traffic. probeApplicationsTable, indexed by VPN ID, app type, and app ID, reports per-application probeApplicationsLatency and probeApplicationsLoss along with the chosen exit path's probeApplicationsExitType (gateway/local/uncomputed/none), egress interface, gateway system IP, and local/remote SD-WAN "color" (mpls, biz-internet, lte, public-internet, etc.); probeLocalTable and probeGatewayTable break the same latency/loss measurements down further by local direct-internet exit versus SD-WAN gateway exit, respectively. This gives an operator visibility into which WAN path each cloud application is currently using and how well that path is performing, which is the core signal CloudExpress uses to pick the best-performing internet/MPLS/gateway exit for SaaS traffic. It depends on Cisco's CISCO-SMI enterprise tree and defines its own textual conventions for IPv4/inet addressing and color lists, and is deployed on Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela-derived) edge routers; network teams can perform a CISCO-SDWAN-PROBE-MIB download to integrate these probe metrics into their NMS.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SDWAN-PROBE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela) edge routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls probeApplicationsTable for a VPN/app pair and compares probeApplicationsLatency and probeApplicationsLoss across its probeApplicationsExitType options; persistently high loss on the current exit path combined with a lower-loss alternative visible in probeGatewayTable would indicate CloudExpress should re-evaluate the path or that an underlying transport color circuit is degraded.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-application active-probe latency and packet loss
  • chosen exit type (gateway/local/uncomputed)
  • egress interface and gateway system IP
  • local and remote SD-WAN transport color
  • local-exit vs. gateway-exit path comparison
