Category: Cisco Devices, IP and Core Protocols, Routing Protocols
Description: Manages route policy definitions and their application to routing protocol updates on Cisco routing platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ROUTE-POLICIES-MIB?
CISCO-ROUTE-POLICIES-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that does not define runtime data objects itself, but instead reserves an OID subtree used to enumerate named routing 'policies' referenced by other standard and Cisco MIBs, such as inetCidrRoutePolicy in IP-FORWARD-MIB (RFC 4292) and mplsL3VpnVrfRteInetCidrPolicy in MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB (RFC 4382). It belongs to the Cisco routing/MPLS MIB family and provides only OBJECT IDENTIFIER definitions, no tables or scalars of its own. It therefore has no direct monitoring role for hardware or software status; its purpose is purely to give consistent, well-known OID values that other route-policy-aware MIBs can point to when reporting which policy governs a route. It has an explicit dependency on IP-FORWARD-MIB and MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB, the standards MIBs that actually consume its OID space. It is used across Cisco routers and MPLS-capable platforms wherever route-policy identifiers need to be expressed via SNMP, with the CISCO-ROUTE-POLICIES-MIB MIB itself supplying the well-known OID values referenced in those cases.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ROUTE-POLICIES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco router
- Cisco MPLS-capable router
Monitoring Examples
This MIB defines only an OBJECT IDENTIFIER subtree (under ciscoRoutePoliciesMIBObjects) with no tables or scalars to poll; it is referenced by policy-identifying objects like inetCidrRoutePolicy in IP-FORWARD-MIB rather than being monitored directly itself.
