Category: Wireless/WiFi

Description: Manages firmware and configuration download operations to Cisco LWAPP access points.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LWAPP-DOWNLOAD-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-DOWNLOAD-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB (extending CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB) that manages firmware image download and predownload operations between a Cisco wireless LAN controller (the "Central Controller" terminating LWAPP/CAPWAP tunnels) and its associated Lightweight Access Points. Its clDLApBootTable, indexed by cLApSysMacAddress, tracks each AP's cldlAPPrimaryVersion and cldlAPBackupVersion images, whether a cldlAPSwapImage swap has been requested, which image cldlAPDownloadImage (primary/backup/abort) is being pushed down, and predownload state via cldlPreDownloadVersion, cldlPreDownloadStatus, cldlPreDownloadNextRetryTime, and cldlPreDownloadRetryCount. This gives an operator visibility into whether an AP's firmware upgrade staged ahead of a maintenance window completed successfully or is stuck retrying, and whether an AP is running the expected primary vs. backup image after a controller upgrade. It depends on CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB for the AP identity object (cLApSysMacAddress) and parent OID, and it is deployed on Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) managing Cisco lightweight access points in enterprise Wi-Fi deployments; network teams can pull the CISCO-LWAPP-DOWNLOAD-MIB download to script upgrade-status verification across large AP fleets.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-DOWNLOAD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) managing Cisco lightweight (LWAPP/CAPWAP) access points

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls clDLApBootTable across all APs after triggering a predownload and watches cldlPreDownloadStatus and cldlPreDownloadRetryCount; an AP stuck retrying with a nonzero cldlPreDownloadRetryCount and a cldlPreDownloadNextRetryTime that keeps advancing would indicate that AP failed to fetch the staged image and needs manual attention before the actual cutover.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AP primary/backup firmware image versions
  • image swap request state
  • active download target (primary/backup/abort)
  • predownload version and status
  • predownload retry count and next-retry timer
