Category: Cisco Devices, DSL and Broadband

Description: Manages Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) CPE device configuration, line status, and performance statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LRE-CPE-MIB?

CISCO-LRE-CPE-MIB manages Cisco Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) Customer Premise Equipment -- DSL/VDSL-based devices that deliver Ethernet service over extended copper runs. It exposes a bridging forwarding-database table (an LRE-specific analog of the standard Bridge-MIB's FDB) and a per-port configuration/status table covering admin status, speed, duplex, and port-protection settings alongside operational protection state. This lets administrators monitor both connectivity (which MAC addresses are learned on which port) and interface configuration health, flagging ports that are administratively down, mismatched in speed/duplex, or unexpectedly (un)protected. It parallels and depends conceptually on the standard Bridge-MIB (dot1dTp) forwarding-database model. It is deployed on Cisco LRE CPE units at customer premises as part of an LRE/VDSL access network. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-LRE-CPE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LRE-CPE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) CPE devices

Monitoring Examples

Polling clreCpePortTable/clreCpePortEntry lets an admin verify clreCpePortAdminStatus, clreCpePortAdminSpeed, and clreCpePortAdminDuplex match the expected configuration for each CPE Ethernet port, and compare clreCpePortAdminProtected against clreCpePortOperProtected to catch a port-protection setting that failed to apply. clreCpeDot1dTpFdbTable/clreCpeDot1dTpFdbEntry, keyed by clreCpeDot1dBasePortIfIndex, shows which MAC addresses are currently learned on each bridge port, useful for diagnosing connectivity issues on the LRE link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port admin status
  • port speed and duplex configuration
  • port protection state (admin vs operational)
  • bridge forwarding database entries per port
