Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco IP forwarding table MIB on various IOS platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IP-FORWARD-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-IP-FORWARD-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which parts of the IETF IP-FORWARD-MIB are implemented by Cisco's SNMP agent across various IOS platforms, rather than a MIB that itself exposes device data. As a capabilities statement it defines no interfaces, environment, or performance objects of its own; its sole purpose is to declare conformance to the referenced standard MIB for management-tool compatibility. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; it neither reports uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, nor any operational counters. It is explicitly and entirely dependent on the IETF IP-FORWARD-MIB (the CIDR-based IP forwarding table MIB) that it profiles. It would typically be referenced by network management system vendors or integrators consulting the CISCO-IP-FORWARD-CAPABILITY MIB to confirm which parts of the IP-FORWARD-MIB a specific Cisco IOS release/platform supports before building monitoring or routing-table polling against it.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IP-FORWARD-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral capability declaration, applies to Cisco IOS-based routers/switches
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing conformance to the IETF IP-FORWARD-MIB rather than a data-bearing MIB, so it has no pollable objects, tables, or realistic monitoring scenario of its own; it would only be consulted by NMS tooling to check IP-FORWARD-MIB feature support on a given Cisco IOS platform.
