Category: Cisco Devices, Pseudowire, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco IETF Pseudowire emulation MIB on supported platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IETF-PW-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-IETF-PW-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing support for CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB, which manages generic pseudowire (PW) emulation edge-to-edge (PWE3) services over packet-switched networks. It has no runtime objects, only a conformance statement. It plays no direct monitoring role itself; it exists to tell management tools which CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB objects/features a given platform's agent supports. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB. It is used in MIB support declarations for Cisco routers/switches offering pseudowire services (e.g., for MPLS-based L2VPN). Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-IETF-PW-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-PW-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router/switch (pseudowire/MPLS L2VPN capable)

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects — no sample objects were provided — so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it is consulted only to check pseudowire object support in CISCO-IETF-PW-MIB.

RFC description

Cisco implementation of IETF Pseudowire (PW) capabilities; defines agent support for RFC 5601 pseudowire MIB objects in Cisco devices.
