Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco IETF Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IETF-PIM-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-IETF-PIM-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing the level of conformance of a Cisco device's SNMP agent to the CISCO-IETF-PIM-MIB, which manages Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) routing state. It contains no runtime data itself, only declarations of which PIM MIB groups, objects, and notification variations are supported on a given Cisco platform/software version. It therefore has no direct monitoring function for hardware or software status; its purpose is purely to inform management systems what PIM-related multicast routing data can be polled from the actual CISCO-IETF-PIM-MIB. It is entirely dependent on the CISCO-IETF-PIM-MIB (itself derived from the IETF PIM-MIB) that it describes conformance for. It is used by NMS and MIB-compiler tooling when validating multicast-routing monitoring support across a fleet of Cisco routers. Engineers can download the CISCO-IETF-PIM-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-PIM-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco router (multicast-enabled)
Monitoring Examples
This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with SUPPORTS/VARIATION clauses referencing CISCO-IETF-PIM-MIB groups rather than runtime objects, so no monitoring scenario applies -- it would be consulted by a management tool to check, for instance, whether PIM neighbor or rendezvous-point status objects are implemented before polling the referenced PIM MIB. No sample_objects were present in the source, consistent with a capabilities-only module.
