Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines extended SNMP agent capability statements for Cisco-specific DS3/T3 interface management extensions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DS3-EXT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-DS3-EXT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, a conformance/compliance statement rather than a data-bearing MIB, that declares which specific optional objects and variations of the CISCO-DS3-MIB are actually implemented on particular Cisco line-card platforms. It covers extended DS3/T3 interface management support for hardware modules such as the ATM Switch Service Module (AXSM), the Enhanced AXSM-E, the Service Resource Module (SRM), the Frame Relay Service Module (FRSM-12), and the 10-Gigabit AXSM-XG. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module it does not itself expose runtime counters, environmental readings, or status objects — it only enumerates support levels per software/hardware release. It is inherently dependent on the CISCO-DS3-MIB it describes, since every capability statement here maps back to objects defined there. Such modules are used internally by network management systems and MIB compilers to determine, per device software version, exactly which DS3/T3 objects can be safely polled or configured on a given Cisco chassis carrying these service modules. Engineers can download the CISCO-DS3-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DS3-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX/BPX chassis with AXSM, AXSM-E, SRM, FRSM-12, or AXSM-XG service modules

Monitoring Examples

As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, CISCO-DS3-EXT-CAPABILITY defines no pollable runtime objects of its own — it only lists which CISCO-DS3-MIB objects and variations (per module/version, such as ciscoDs3ExtAxsmCapabilityV2R00 or ciscoDs3ExtFrsm12CapabilityV3R00) are supported by a given agent. There is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe honestly, since it carries no counters, tables, or status values to poll.
