For most of the switching paths, the value of this object may be similar to cefSwitchingPunt.

What is cefSwitchingPunt2Host?

This counter specifically tracks packets punted all the way to host or process switching, the slowest path, handled by the main CPU rather than any hardware-assisted vector. Because process switching is the most CPU-expensive forwarding path, a rising value here is a stronger warning sign than a generic punt, since it means traffic is bypassing all fast-path options and directly taxing the route processor. An admin noticing router CPU utilization climbing alongside this counter would likely trace it to packets requiring fragmentation or an unsupported feature that forces full software processing per packet.
