Description: Manages DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) interface configuration on Cisco CMTS platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-CABLE-DSG-IF-MIB?
CISCO-CABLE-DSG-IF-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for the DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) feature on Cisco Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms, part of Cisco's cable broadband product line. It exposes configuration and status tables describing Conditional Access (CA) vendor definitions, DSG tunnels (the multicast IP streams carrying out-of-band messages to set-top boxes), and their association with downstream channels. Monitoring focus is on verifying tunnel and vendor configuration health and downstream mapping rather than classic hardware sensors, though a missing or misconfigured tunnel entry effectively signals a software/service delivery fault for set-top messaging. It depends on and complements the broader DOCSIS/CMTS MIB set (e.g., interface and downstream channel MIBs) used on the same CMTS chassis. It is deployed in cable operator head-ends running DOCSIS Set-top Gateway services for digital set-top box out-of-band signaling. Engineers can download the CISCO-CABLE-DSG-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CABLE-DSG-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll ccdsgIfTunnelTable, keyed by ccdsgIfTunnelIndex, to confirm each expected DSG tunnel has a valid ccdsgIfTunnelInIpAddress and ccdsgIfTunnelMacAddress and is mapped to the correct downstream. Checking ccdsgIfCaVendorTable's ccdsgIfCaVendorTunnelCnt against expectations reveals whether a given CA vendor's tunnels are properly provisioned. A tunnel entry with an unexpected or zero address, or a vendor with fewer tunnels than expected, indicates a set-top messaging delivery problem.
What Can Be Monitored
- DSG tunnel configuration
- tunnel IP and MAC addressing
- CA vendor tunnel counts
- tunnel-to-downstream channel mapping
- row status of vendor/tunnel entries
