Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamVariableResponseTx

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.1.1.9

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: A count of the number of Variable Response OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface.

An Variable Response OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equal to the OAM Variable Response code.

Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.

What is cienaCesOamVariableResponseTx?

This Counter32 (frames) counts Variable Response OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface, per its description, sent by the local OAM client in reply to the peer's variable requests. Because each response should correspond to a received request, this counter should track closely with cienaCesOamVariableRequestRx; a growing gap between the two suggests the local device is failing to answer some fraction of the peer's variable queries. A support engineer chasing incomplete OAM-based telemetry from the far end would compare these two counters to see whether responses are actually being sent for every request received.
