Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB
OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamUnsupportedCodesRx
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.1.1.14
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter32
Access: read-only
Description: A count of the number of OAMPDUs received on this interface with an unsupported op-code.
An unsupported op-code OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equal to the opcode for a function that is not supported by the device.
Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.
What is cienaCesOamUnsupportedCodesRx?
This Counter32 (frames) counts OAMPDUs received on this interface with an unsupported op-code, per its description, meaning the peer sent an OAM frame type this device's OAM implementation doesn't recognize. This typically surfaces when connecting to a newer or different-vendor device that supports OAM extensions beyond what the local firmware understands, and it's a useful first check when two OAM-capable devices fail to establish full OAM functionality despite basic discovery succeeding. An engineer troubleshooting partial OAM interoperability between two vendors would check this counter to confirm the peer is indeed sending frame types the local device rejects.
