Description: A count of the number of unique Event OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface. Event notifications may be sent in duplicate to increase the probability of successfully being received, given the possibility that a frame may be lost in transit.

An Event Notification OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equal to the OAM Event code.

A unique Event Notification OAMPDU is indicated as an Event Notification OAMPDU with a Sequence Number field that is distinct from the previously transmitted Event Notification OAMPDU Sequence Number.

Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.

What is cienaCesOamUniqueEventNotificationTx?

This Counter32, in frames, counts unique, non-duplicate, Event Notification OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface, per its description, which are sent by the local OAM client to report link-quality events like errored-frame threshold crossings to the peer. Because event notifications may be intentionally duplicated for reliability, this counter tracks only the distinct underlying events rather than every retransmitted copy, giving a true count of how many actual fault conditions were reported outward. An engineer trying to correlate local errored-frame events with peer-side alarms would use this counter, rather than the raw OAMPDU count, to know how many genuinely new events were signaled.
