Description: The OAM functions supported on this Ethernet like interface. OAM consists of separate functionality sets above the basic discovery process. This value indicates the capabilities of the peer OAM entity with respect to these functions. This value is initialized so all bits are clear, and is invalid if the cienaCesOamPeerStatus is inactive.
The capbilities of the OAM peer can be determined from the configuration field of the Local Information TLV of the most recently received Information OAMPDU with a Local Information TLV.
An Information OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAM code that equals the code reserved for Information OAMPDUs.
What is cienaCesOamPeerFunctionsSupported?
This read-only BITS value reports which optional Ethernet OAM functions the peer entity supports, per its description, mirroring the local cienaCesOamFunctionsSupported field but describing the far end's capabilities instead, initialized to all-clear and invalid when the peer is inactive. Because certain operations like remote loopback require the peer to actually support that function, this field is what an engineer checks before assuming a remote-triggered test will even be possible on a given link. An engineer preparing to run a remote loopback test against a newly-connected peer would check this bitmask first to confirm loopbackSupport is actually set on the far end, avoiding a failed test attempt against a peer that never advertised the capability.
