cienaCesOamLoopbackCommand
Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB
OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamLoopbackCommand
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.6.1.2
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-only
Description: This attribute initiates or terminates remote loopback with an OAM peer. Value startRemoteLoopback(2) of this attribute indicates the local OAM client to send a loopback OAMPDU to the OAM peer with the loopback enable flags set. Value stopRemoteLoopback(3) of this attribute indicates the local OAM client to send a loopback OAMPDU to the OAM peer with the loopback enable flags cleared. Value noLoopback(1) to this attribute has no effect.
The attribute always returns noLoopback on a read. To determine the loopback status, use the attribute cienaCesOamLoopbackStatus.
What is cienaCesOamLoopbackCommand?
This read-only INTEGER attribute, actioned via the object's set semantics per its description, initiates or terminates a remote loopback with the OAM peer, startRemoteLoopback(2) tells the local client to send a loopback-enable OAMPDU to the peer, and stopRemoteLoopback(3) tells it to end the loopback. Remote loopback is a deliberately disruptive test that makes the peer echo all received frames back rather than forward them normally, so this is the control an engineer uses to run an end-to-end signal-quality test on a live circuit, at the cost of interrupting real traffic for its duration. A field technician verifying a newly-installed metro-Ethernet circuit before handing it to a customer would use this object to loop the far end and send test traffic to confirm the path is clean, undoing the loopback afterward with stopRemoteLoopback.
