Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamInformationTx

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: A count of the number of Information OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface.

An Information OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equal to the OAM Information code.

Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.

What is cienaCesOamInformationTx?

This read-only Counter32, measured in frames, counts the number of Ethernet OAM (802.3ah) Information OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface, as its description confirms. Information OAMPDUs are the periodic keepalive/capability-advertisement frames that keep an OAM session with a link partner alive and synchronized, so this counter's steady increase is the expected, healthy behavior of an established OAM session on that port. A carrier-Ethernet engineer would check that this counter is incrementing at a rate consistent with the configured cienaCesOamPduTimer interval to confirm the local OAM client is actually transmitting, rather than being stuck in a fault state.
