Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamInformationRx

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: A count of the number of Information OAMPDUs received on this interface.

An Information OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equal to the OAM Information code.

Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.

What is cienaCesOamInformationRx?

This Counter32 (in frames), read-only, counts Information OAMPDUs received on this interface from the OAM peer, per its description. Because Information OAMPDUs are the keepalive of the 802.3ah discovery/monitoring session, a healthy link should show this counter climbing roughly in step with the transmitted count, cienaCesOamInformationTx; a stall in this counter while the local Tx counter keeps rising points at a one-way OAM failure, such as a unidirectional fiber fault. An engineer diagnosing a link that shows OAM 'linkfault' would compare Rx against Tx counts on both ends to isolate which direction stopped receiving keepalives.
