cienaCesOamDyingGaspEnable
Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB
OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamDyingGaspEnable
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.8.1.11
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-only
Description: Indicates whether the local device should attempt to indicate a dying gasp fault via the OAMPDU flags field to its peer OAM entity. If the system does not support dying gasp capability, reading the object should always result in 'disabled(2)'.
By default, this object should have the value enabled(1) for Ethernet like interfaces that support OAM. If the OAM layer does not support event notifications (as indicated via the OamFunctionsSupported attribute), this value is ignored.
What is cienaCesOamDyingGaspEnable?
This read-only INTEGER, enabled or disabled, controls whether the local device attempts to signal a 'dying gasp' fault to its OAM peer via the OAMPDU flags field, per its description, reading disabled(2) unconditionally if the hardware doesn't support the capability at all. Dying gasp is the OAM mechanism a device uses to send a last-gasp notification as it loses power or suffers a fatal fault, using whatever brief window of capacitor-held power remains before it goes fully dark, so this flag determines whether that final signal is even attempted. An operator running remote unmanned equipment on a power feed prone to brief outages would confirm this is enabled so a power failure at least generates a final OAM alarm rather than the device simply vanishing from monitoring with no explanation.
