Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB
OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamDuplicateEventNotificationTx
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.1.1.17
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter32
Access: read-only
Description: A count of the number of duplicate Event OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface. Event notification OAMPDUs may be sent in duplicate to increase the probability of successfully being received, given the possibility that a frame may be lost in transit.
An Event Notification OAMPDU is indicated by a valid frame with (1) destination MAC address equal to that of the reserved MAC address for Slow Protocols (See 43B of [802.3ah]), (2) a lengthOrType field equal to the reserved type for Slow Protocols, (3) a Slow Protocols subtype equal to that of the subtype reserved for OAM, and (4) an OAMPDU code equals to the OAM Event code.
A duplicate Event Notification OAMPDU is indicated as an Event Notification OAMPDU with a Sequence Number field that is identical to the previously transmitted Event Notification OAMPDU Sequence Number.
Discontinuities of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of the ifCounterDiscontinuityTime.
What is cienaCesOamDuplicateEventNotificationTx?
This Counter32 (frames) counts duplicate Event OAMPDUs transmitted on this interface, per its description, the intentional retransmissions of an event notification sent to improve the odds it survives a lossy link. A high ratio of duplicate to unique event transmissions, comparing this counter to cienaCesOamUniqueEventNotificationTx, can indicate the local device is compensating for a link it perceives as unreliable enough to warrant repeated retransmission. An engineer assessing link quality indirectly through OAM behavior would look at a rising duplicate count as a hint that the OAM layer itself doesn't trust the link to deliver a single copy reliably.
