Module: CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OAM-MIB::cienaCesOamAdminState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.3.5.1.1.4.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: This object is used to provision the default administrative OAM mode for this interface. This object represents the desired state of OAM for this interface.

The cienaCesOamAdminState always starts in the disabled(1) state until an explicit management action or configuration information retained by the system causes a transition to the enabled(2) state.

Note that the value of this object is ignored when the interface is not operating in full-duplex mode. OAM is not supported on half-duplex links.

What is cienaCesOamAdminState?

This read-only INTEGER, disabled or enabled, reports the provisioned administrative state that governs whether Ethernet OAM is meant to run on this interface, per its description, always starting in the disabled(1) state at initialization until explicit configuration turns it on. Because this is the administrative intent rather than the live negotiated status, its value tells an engineer what OAM should be doing on this port, which should then be cross-checked against cienaCesOamOperStatus to see what it's actually doing. An engineer troubleshooting why OAM doesn't appear to be running on a new port would check this object first to confirm OAM was even provisioned to be enabled before looking for a negotiation problem.
