This reports whether this MEP faces up (toward the client/customer-facing side) or down (toward the network/provider-facing side) relative to its hosting interface, a fundamental 802.1ag concept that determines which direction of traffic the MEP's CFM frames actually monitor. An admin needs to get this right during provisioning, since an up-facing MEP monitors the path toward the customer while a down-facing MEP monitors the path toward the network core, and a MEP configured with the wrong direction will silently monitor the wrong segment of the path entirely. For example, a MEP intended to detect faults on the network-facing uplink but mistakenly configured with cienaCesCfmMEPDirection = up would instead be monitoring the customer-facing side, leaving the actual uplink segment unmonitored.
