This choice directly gates which other fields in the profile are meaningful -- the source and destination IP address fields only matter for ip or udpecho, and the FpgaUdpChkSumErrPkts counter elsewhere in this MIB is only ever populated by tests using udpecho -- so picking the wrong PDU type here can leave several other carefully configured fields silently unused. For example, selecting udpecho and configuring source and destination InetAddress fields lets the test validate actual IP and UDP forwarding and checksum handling, something a plain ethernet PDU type test would never exercise.
