Description: True if the ACL rule matches on the base ethertype, False otherwise. When True, the cienaCesAclRuleBaseEtype field will contain the base ethertype value that is to be matched by this rule.

What is cienaCesAclRuleMatchBaseEtype?

This boolean switches on matching by the frame's base Ethernet Type field (the value identifying what protocol, like IPv4, IPv6, or ARP, is carried inside the frame), letting an admin filter by protocol type at the Ethernet-frame level rather than relying only on IP-layer fields. An admin uses ethertype matching specifically to catch or exclude non-IP traffic that IP-based match fields elsewhere in this rule table simply can't see, since those only apply to IP-carrying frames. For example, an admin wanting a rule that specifically matches ARP traffic (ethertype 0x0806) for rate-limiting or monitoring purposes, distinct from any IP-based traffic, would set this true and populate cienaCesAclRuleBaseEtype with that ARP ethertype value.
