Description: Manages PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM) policy server interaction and dynamic QoS gate management on ARRIS/Cadant CMTS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CADANT-CMTS-PCMM-MIB?
CADANT-CMTS-PCMM-MIB is an ARRIS (originally Cadant) private MIB for the C4 CMTS covering PacketCable Multimedia (PCMM), the DOCSIS-based dynamic QoS/policy control framework used by cable operators to provision service flows on demand. It exposes configuration data for the PCMM client of COPS (Common Open Policy Service), including administrative state, protocol timers, COPS version, and per-subscriber VRF name mapping used for multimedia gate management. In monitoring terms it is primarily a software/protocol-state module -- confirming that the PCMM/COPS client is administratively enabled, running the expected protocol version, and correctly associating subscribers with VRFs -- rather than exposing hardware environmental sensors. It explicitly depends on the standard COPS protocol MIB defined in RFC 2940 for the underlying COPS transport, layering PCMM-specific policy objects on top. It is typically deployed by cable operators running CMTS-based dynamic QoS for services like VoIP or on-demand bandwidth boosts. Engineers can download the CADANT-CMTS-PCMM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-CMTS-PCMM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ARRIS/Cadant C4 CMTS
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll cadPCMMAdminState to confirm the PCMM client is enabled, and cadPCMMCopsVersion together with cadPCMMTimerT1 to verify the COPS session is using the expected protocol version and keepalive timing toward the policy server. cadPCMMSubscriberIdVrfName lets an admin confirm that a given subscriber's dynamic QoS gates are being applied within the correct VRF context. If cadPCMMAdminState shows disabled or the COPS timer values drift from configured policy, that would explain failures in on-demand QoS gate provisioning for subscribers.
What Can Be Monitored
- PCMM admin state
- COPS protocol timer T1
- COPS/PCMM protocol version
- subscriber VRF name mapping
