Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Routing Protocols, Vendor: ARRIS

Description: Extends BGP routing protocol management for ARRIS/Cadant CMTS platforms, providing BGP peer and route table status information.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CADANT-BGP-MIB?

CADANT-BGP-MIB is an enterprise-specific MIB from ARRIS (formerly Cadant) that extends standard BGP routing management for the C4 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platform used in cable broadband networks. It exposes route-map auxiliary configuration and route redistribution data used to control how BGP routes are filtered, matched, and redistributed into the routing table. While primarily a routing/configuration MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, it supports monitoring of the software-level routing state of the CMTS, confirming that route maps and redistribution policies are correctly applied and that BGP-derived routes are propagating as expected. It builds on and extends the standard BGP4-MIB rather than replacing it. It is typically deployed by cable MSOs managing edge routing on Cadant/ARRIS C4 CMTS chassis in head-end or hub facilities. Engineers can download the CADANT-BGP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-BGP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ARRIS/Cadant C4 CMTS

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cadBgpRouteMapAuxTable entries such as cadBgpRouteMapAuxRouteMapName and cadBgpRouteMapAuxPrefixListName to verify which prefix lists and match criteria are bound to a given BGP route map on the C4 CMTS. Cross-referencing cadRtmRedistAuxTable (rtmRedistFteIndex, rtmRedistEntryId) lets an admin confirm that routes from another protocol are being redistributed into BGP as configured. If a route map's cadBgpRouteMapAuxPreMatch or address filters are misconfigured, expected routes will silently fail to propagate, and this table is the definitive way to audit the intended policy against actual redistribution behavior.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BGP route-map bindings
  • prefix list associations
  • route match criteria
  • route redistribution entries
  • redistributed route protocol source
