What Is BroadworksFault?
BroadworksFault is a fault-notification MIB module for BroadSoft's BroadWorks softswitch platform, a carrier-grade VoIP/unified-communications application server suite. Rather than exposing configuration or performance counters, its scope is limited to defining trap/notification objects — specifically the broadsoftNotifications branch — used to signal fault conditions across BroadWorks system elements. It is used primarily to alert operators to hardware or software problems on BroadWorks application, network, and media servers, such as process failures or service degradation events, rather than to poll ongoing status counters. As a fault/alarm-only MIB it is typically layered alongside BroadSoft's other BroadWorks system and performance MIBs that provide the polled state referenced by these traps. It is deployed in carrier and enterprise VoIP environments running the BroadWorks platform, feeding NMS/EMS systems via SNMP trap receivers. BroadworksFault SNMP monitoring therefore centers on trap reception in near-real time rather than periodic object polling, since the module defines no gettable counters of its own.

Monitoring Examples
The module defines broadsoftNotifications as the root for trap definitions rather than a polled data table, so there is no object here an admin would GET via SNMP polling; instead, a BroadWorks node emits traps under this branch when a monitored fault condition occurs. An NMS configured as a trap receiver watches for these notifications to detect faults in near-real time rather than discovering them via periodic polling. Because BroadworksFault is notification-only, correlating a received trap with its underlying cause typically requires cross-referencing BroadWorks system/performance MIBs for the affected component.
