What Is BW-XtendedServicesPlatformFault?
BW-XtendedServicesPlatformFault is a BroadSoft proprietary MIB that defines fault/alarm notifications for the BroadWorks Xtended Services Platform (Xsp), the component of the BroadWorks unified communications platform that hosts web applications and API-driven services for subscribers. It defines two NOTIFICATION-TYPE traps — bwXspTransactionGlobalRateLimitExceeded and bwXspTransactionUserRateLimitExceeded — each carrying a standard BroadWorks fault object set (identifier, timeStamp, alarmName, systemName, severity, component, subcomponent, problemText, recommendedActionsText) imported from the shared BroadworksFault MIB. These traps fire specifically when transaction throughput protections kick in: the global variant when overall transaction volume for a given web application exceeds its configured rate limit, and the user variant when a specific user's transaction rate is throttled. Monitoring these traps is useful for detecting when the Xsp platform is actively rate-limiting API/web transactions, which can indicate either a runaway client application, an attempted abuse pattern, or simply undersized rate-limit configuration for legitimate load. It depends on the BroadworksFault common MIB for its object and severity definitions and on the broader BroadWorks platform notification framework. It is deployed on BroadSoft BroadWorks Application Server / Xtended Services Platform nodes in VoIP/UC service-provider deployments, and operators instrumenting this platform reference the BW-XtendedServicesPlatformFault MIB to catch transaction rate-limit alarms via SNMP traps.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BW-XtendedServicesPlatformFault. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BroadSoft BroadWorks Application Server / Xtended Services Platform (Xsp) nodes
Monitoring Examples
An operator's trap receiver alerts on a bwXspTransactionUserRateLimitExceeded notification carrying a specific systemName and problemText; repeated traps for the same user id in a short window would indicate either a misbehaving client integration or an attempted abuse of that user's API access.
What Can Be Monitored
- global transaction rate-limit exceeded alarms per web application
- per-user transaction rate-limit exceeded alarms
- fault severity, component, and subcomponent classification
- problem-text and recommended-action alarm details
