Description: Extends IEEE 802.3ad LACP link aggregation configuration and partner state on Avaya/Nortel ERS switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAY-STACK-LACP-EXT-MIB?
BAY-STACK-LACP-EXT-MIB is a Nortel Networks (later Avaya) BayStack/Ethernet Routing Switch MIB that extends the standard IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol objects with additional vendor-specific configuration and state. It belongs to Nortel/Avaya's enterprise switching product line and focuses on link-aggregation (LAG/trunk) management rather than general chassis health. Its monitoring value is primarily software/protocol-configuration status: bsleDot3adCompatibilityMode reports the LACP compatibility mode in use, and the bsleDot3adAggPortExtTable exposes per-port administrative and operational enabled state (bsleDot3adAggPortExtAdminEnabled/OperEnabled) for ports participating in link aggregation, with bsleNotifications providing trap events for state changes. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard IEEE8023-LAG-MIB (802.3ad LACP) defined by the IEEE, adding Nortel-specific enhancements on top. It is deployed on Nortel/Avaya BayStack and Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) platforms wherever link aggregation between switches or to servers needs close monitoring. Engineers can download the BAY-STACK-LACP-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-LACP-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel/Avaya BayStack and Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) platforms
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would walk the bsleDot3adAggPortExtTable (indexed by bsleDot3adAggPortExtIndex) and compare bsleDot3adAggPortExtAdminEnabled against bsleDot3adAggPortExtOperEnabled for each port to spot a port that is administratively enabled for aggregation but has failed to come operationally active, indicating an LACP negotiation mismatch with the partner device. Checking bsleDot3adCompatibilityMode would confirm both ends of a trunk are using a compatible LACP mode after a firmware change. Notifications under bsleNotifications would alert the NOC in real time to an aggregation member going down.
What Can Be Monitored
- LACP compatibility mode
- per-port aggregation admin state
- per-port aggregation operational state
- link aggregation state-change traps
